A quality sofa frame outlasts the cushions, fabric, and springs by decades. If your sofa was built with a solid hardwood frame — and most pre-2000 American-made sofas were — reupholstery is almost always more cost-effective than buying new, and the finished product will be built to a standard that mass-produced furniture cannot match.
Honest Pricing
Pricing varies by project. We do not publish flat rates because every sofa is different: size, fabric choice, foam density, structural damage, and styling details all drive cost. Here are some general ranges to set expectations — these are not quotes:
Dining chair seat recover. Lower end of the spectrum.
Simple sofa seat cushion recover. Mid-range, depending on fabric.
Full sofa strip-to-frame rebuild. Significant investment, but typically 40–60% less than comparable new high-quality furniture.
Fabric costs vary widely. Basic upholstery fabric vs. designer fabric vs. top-grain leather can be a 3–5x difference.

Our Method

All fabric, foam, batting, dust cover removed.

Joints re-glued, dowels replaced, corner blocks reinforced.

Eight-way hand-tied springs re-tied or replaced. Sinuous springs re-clipped.

Jute or polypropylene webbing re-strung across the seat and back deck.

New high-density foam (2.0+ lb density), Dacron wrap, cotton or polyester batting.

Arm tops, fronts, and inside backs padded for shape and comfort.

New fabric or leather pattern-cut, sewn, and fitted. Welting, tufting, and trim applied.

New dust cover stapled to underside. Hardware reinstalled.
Eight-way hand-tied springs — the honest, decades-lasting method still done in our shop.
Sofa & Couch Services
Complete strip-to-frame rebuild with new everything — springs, foam, fabric, and finishing.
Full or partial sectional rebuilds. We handle any configuration and can modify sections.
For sofas with removable slipcovers — new covers sewn to exact spec with fresh foam underneath.
Same strip-to-frame process, scaled appropriately. Full range of fabric and leather.
New foam cores, Dacron wrap, new covers. Can upgrade density and resilience.
Full strip and rebuild including mechanism inspection. Cables, springs, and levers checked.
Includes mechanism service. Mattress replacement available.
Sunbrella and marine-grade vinyl. UV-resistant foam. Drainage grommets.

Fabric Guide
We stock thousands of swatches and can order from any major supplier. Bring your own material (COM) is welcome — we’ll advise on suitability.
Crypton, Revolution, Sunbrella indoor. Stain-resistant, family-friendly, and durable. Best for everyday sofas.
Luxurious hand-feel. Modern velvets are more durable than vintage. Good for low-traffic living rooms.
Natural fibers, relaxed look. Better with a protective treatment. Not ideal for homes with pets or kids.
Full-grain, top-grain, or semi-aniline. The most durable option. Patinas beautifully with age.
Sunbrella, marine vinyl. UV-resistant, water-resistant, mildew-resistant. Required for outdoor pieces.
Reupholstery Buyer’s Guide
The sofa reupholstery industry in LA has a wide range of quality. Here’s what to watch for — and how Rahn’s is different.
Any shop that quotes a fixed price over the phone without inspecting the frame and springs is either cutting corners or will surprise you with add-ons later. We provide free in-shop evaluations and pickup available.
If the quote feels too good to be true, it probably skips structural work. A reupholstery that does not address a broken frame or collapsed springs will look good for 6 months and fail within 2 years.
Cheap shops use 1.5 lb/ft³ foam. We use 2.0+ lb minimum. The difference is 3x the lifespan.

Yes. Upload photos through the free estimate form. We can give a ballpark range from photos, but a final written estimate requires seeing the piece in person to evaluate the frame and springs. Pickup available.
Is it worth reupholstering my old sofa?

If the frame is solid hardwood, almost certainly yes. Full reupholstery costs 40–60% less than comparable new high-quality furniture, and the frame is likely better than anything manufactured today at the same price point.
How long does sofa reupholstery take?

2–4 weeks for most sofas. Sectionals and complex projects may take 4–6 weeks. Rush service sometimes available. We provide a timeline with every estimate.
Can I bring my own fabric?

Yes, COM (Customer’s Own Material) is welcome. We will advise on suitability for your piece.
Do you pick up and deliver?

Yes — pickup and delivery available across all of Los Angeles and Orange County.
Do you reupholster outdoor furniture?

Yes. We use Sunbrella and marine-grade fabrics designed for outdoor exposure. UV-resistant foam and drainage grommets included.
